Instead of the traditional Fairy Castles
we set out to design a Medieval Castle Wedding Cake.
The
castle part of the cake is all made of sugar, the actual
cake is the base in which the castle sits on. Creating
it in two separate parts enabled us to insert lights
into the body of the castle so that the doorway and
the turrets are fully illuminated, thus bringing the
castle alive and creating a sense of depth and mystique.
The actual castle stands 21”high,when the cake
and the base are all together it stands 28” in
height. Particular detail was given to the surface of
the castle to create a stone affect finish to be as
realistic as possible. Inserted in to the actual cake
is a spray of deep red roses with winterberries and
ivy leaves thus giving a wintry feeling to the cake.
The cake was designed and made for two friends who
celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary by renewal
of their wedding vows. Sally chose a medieval wedding
dress with deep red embroidery this being the catalyst
for the whole design.
This project has enabled us take cake making one step
further.
The techniques used can be adapted to illuminate most
styles of cakes.
