This is our biggest project to date
and our very first internet order! We received an email
from a prospective client looking for someone who liked
a challenge and we responded. The bride and groom wanted
a wedding cake that was a replica of a Christmas tree,
with a small room inserted in the centre to look like
a small house with winnie the pooh as the bride, tigger
as the groom and piglet and eeyore as bridesmaids.
We started with some polystyrene dummy cakes to get
the right shape and then set out to make the actual
fruitcakes.
The bottom tier has a circumference of 20", we
used 24lbs of fruit and nuts, 32 eggs, 22lbs of marzipan
and 32lbs of fondant icing to create the tree. The
boards are all specially made to the correct shape
and around the base of the tree sat 30 hand made presents
decorated with ribbons made out of sugar. The house
is made of pastillage, the figures of sugar paste and
there is a small christmas tree in the corner decorated
with winnie the pooh decorations. On the end of each
bough snow has been piped and a candle and a bauble
made out of sugar has been placed on the very tip of
each bough. The finished cake stands 3ft tall and took
two men to carry. The wedding took place in Bournemouth,
where the bride and groom had made a grotto for it
to stand in with two giant reindeers either side of
the cake! In case you have not guessed, the bride and
groom adore christmas!
