Wedding Cake Sizes
Choosing your wedding cake is a big decision. There are lots
of different styles to choose from. In this section we have
tried to make choosing easy for you. We have set out a step-by-step
guide to planning your wedding cake.
Step 1: Decide on the size of your cake.
Firstly you need to work out how many guests you
have, it is traditional to cater for your day and evening guests. Once
you know how many people you wish to feed you can work out how
many tiers you require.
By Tradition the top tier is kept for your first child's christening
therefore if you wish to do this, take it into consideration
when working
out the size of your cake. This tier needs to be a fruit cake
as the alcohol
will preserve it, store it in the box provided in a cool dry
place.
Below is a guide to how many portions each cake size yields.
This guide is based on fruitcakes:
| Size |

Sponge cake does not yield as much as fruit cake so this needs
to be taken into consideration.
This guide shows round and square cakes. If you choose a different
shape then the portion sizes can vary.
It is a good idea to have individual boxes for your guests
to take the cake home in, they are also very good for sending
cakes to guests who are unable to attend.
